St Abbs Wolf Fish

We had two excellent dives at St Abbs on Sunday, the first at Black Carr and the second at West Hurkar. Over both dives we saw 4 wolf fish, which St Abbs is renowned for, all at around only 20-22m. The short video/photoshow below shows two different fish. The one in the video footage was feeding on brittle stars and was uncommonly confident, coming out of its crevice to try and snatch a snack. Usually, wolf fish shy away into their holes at the merest sight of a diver and mostly what you see is just a glimpse of a face. They are usually found in much deeper water than 20-22m which is why the St Abbs population is so interesting (and accessible). They look a bit scary but they are only interested in eating things like crabs, sea urchins and starfish. They don't eat fish and they don't attack divers!
